Please give me solid advice on this as my thinking cap is going onto over drive.?

i live in the uk and my boyfriend lives in italy he is a resident there he is learning to drive soon and works in a factory dealing with textiles. we plan to get married at the end of next year and we have both decide we want to settle in the uk. my worry is the minimum wage is �5.52 and it has said it will go up next year from the previous year it has gone up 17p which is not much and although some jobs you can get more than that my worry is will he be able to find as job as he doesnt want to be earning less than a grand a month. please help with any suggestions.
